Thriller Movie summary

Generally thriller movies tend to have A similar layout and similar forms of sounds effects and camera work. For example Psycho and dead calm both use: Panning close ups and long shots.

Dead Calm analysis

Some main features I picked out about "Dead calm" are as follows: The white writing and black background for the credits, also spooky music is played to create tension. The close up on the mans face when he is looking for his wife and couldn't find her emphasises the tension he feels. A panning shot is also used over the crowd, this gives of an impression of distortion, throught out the the begining scene the music is continuous. The weather is very typcal of a Thriller movie it is raining nd dark. The fact that the different scenes fade into one another emphasises the fact thst somthing is going to happen, when the woman is singing the lullaby and her voice is echoey it is also quite obvious that something is going to happen. The begining of the movie is set around christmas time this really emphasises the devestation the tragedy will have on the family, having there young baby killed not very long before christmas when christmas is supposed to be a time for family and togetherness.

Seven Analysis

At The begining of the film we see Morgan Freeman in his house getting ready to go out, it is very dark and silent (typical of the thriller genre) . As he turns the light off the scene immediately swtiches to more of a crime scene. Another man is killed by his wife not alot of dialogue is given in this scene. The fact that the tense scene is created through Morgan then it switches to the crime scene, this is a good technique to use when creating tension. Another cop (Brad Pitt) arrives on the scene he is dressed in black and looks very dark. Back at morgans house it is completely silent, apart from the what seems to be extremel,y loid tickinf of a clock like instrument. As soon as the ticking stops there is an all of a sudden darkness (the screen goes black) then all of a sudden a deep base type of music begins, with the now and again screetching sound and the credits begin, behind the credits we can see who looks like he is trying to ger rid of his finger prints, the fact that after the loud clock like instrument stops the screen goes black suggests that at this time something bad is occuring.
