Mis-en-scene elements for new film

The genre of film I will be planning a scene from is A romance film.

There are two ways love and romance could be portrayed, one being through a moulin rouge style scene using blacks and deep reds to create a sultry mood,

The clothing and make up and hair will consist of reds and blacks and the make up worn on the girls will be rouge lips and fairly pale skin, her hair will be on tied back but be in cascading curls

The setting will be very romantic, a sterotypical love film scene such as a loved up couple on a boat at sunset in somewhere romantic such as venice.

Media Homework

The scene I will be analysing is from the film Titanic. The end scene ( when the ship sinks) is very dramatic and uses a variety of different camera shots and angles to emphasise the actual sinking of the ship.

A lot of middle shots are used to show the whole ship and the effects the iceberg had had on the ships appearance. Also middle shots are used when the ship splits in half to emphasise the actual event in hand and to show the seriousness of it.

A few long shots are used when the ship is moments from sinking and lots of people are hanging on to the end of the ship for dear life. This is effective because by showing the whole ship the reality of how small the people are compared to the ship makes the audience realise the ship that was ment to be unsinkable is about to sink and therefore surely the people will not survive if the ship doesn't. Also By showing this one particular long shot we realise how much devistation the ship sinking will have on people and how it will effect not only them but their loved ones also.

There are a few close ups. mainly on peoples faces and facial expressions just before and after the sinking. There are quite a few close ups on women and children as they have to get in the boat and leave their dads/husbands behind, Their overwrought emotion shows how devistating it was for them to leave their loved ones knowing they may never see them again. There are also close ups of the People in the life boats after the ship has sunk, this is done to show the effects the whole siruation has had on their faces/ facial expressions, eg: some are crying and others have red noses and cheeks showing how cold they are. Finally the middle shot and close ups on the dead peoples faces when they go back to try and rescue more people are horrible to look at, escpecially one women who had her baby with her, when watching these few shots people would feel emotional as they would realise the effect the sinking has had on these people and also the families who came back to resue husbands/dads only to find there dead bodies.

I think in the last scene camera shots and choices of shots are used effectively to make the audience feel sadness towards the sinking and the people affected in it.
